1- House of Reps Okays June 12 as Democracy Day
The House of Representatives on Thursday approved June 12 as Democracy Day in Nigeria, to honour late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, thereby revoking May 29. This gives legal backing to President Muhammadu Buhari’s earlier declaration. The approval followed the adoption of a report on a bill seeking to amend the Public Holidays Act 2004.
2- Imo Speaker, 17 Other APC, PDP Lawmakers Decamp To Action Alliance
Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly Acho Ihim and 17 other members of the House on Thursday defected from the APC and the PDP to the Action Alliance (AA). The speaker, while reading the notice of defection during plenary, also announced that he had joined the AA.
3- I Will Start Restructuring Process Within Six Months If Elected – Atiku
The Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Abubakar Atiku, says his administration will start the process of restructuring the country within six months of his inauguration.Atiku made the pledge on Thursday in Ibadan during the flag off of his campaign in the South West Zone. He promised to use his business and administrative experience to revive the nation’s economy.
4- Abdulsalami Advises Old Politicians To Leave Stage For Young Ones
A former Head of State retired Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar has advised politicians that are 70 years and above to retire from politics and give way to younger ones for the progress of the country. Abubakar gave this advice while speaking on Thursday at Arewa House Kaduna as chairman of the presentation and launching of the book,” Yakowa: A Dream Differed.”
5- Court Grants Activist Deji Adeyanju Bail
An Abuja Magistrate Court has admitted human rights activist and coordinator of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, to bail in the sum of N500,000. Adeyanju was remanded by the Court on Tuesday, following his arraignment on charges of cyber-stalking, inciting disturbance and criminal defamation by the police. In a ruling on Thursday, Magistrate Idiat Akanni said the offence the defendant committed was bailable.
6- FG, Petroleum Marketers Finally Agree On Settlement Of Unpaid Claims
The Federal Government says it has agreed with petroleum marketers on the settlement of outstanding claims and assured that operations at all depots and sales will continue until further notice. This is contained in a statement by Paul Abechi, Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Minister of Finance, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, on Thursday in Abuja.
7- Court Sends Anambra APC Chairman Packing
A Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State, has nullified the election of Emeka Ibe as the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. The court ruling was made after Uzochukwu Onyekwere, a member of the APC in Anambra and chairmanship aspirant, contested the May 19 state elective congress that brought in Ibe, over unlawful exclusion.
8- Nigeria Third Most Terrorised Country for The 4th Year – Report
A report released by the Global Terrorism Index has revealed that Nigeria is still the third most terrorised country in the world. The 2018 Global Terrorism Index report, which was released on Wednesday, blamed the spate of terrorism in Nigeria on the “increase in violence involving Fulani extremists even as deaths committed by Boko Haram are falling.”

10- Maximum Security Assured As Nat’l Sport Festival Begins
Athletes taking part in the 19th National Sports Festival will get adequate security, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Musa Bello has assured. The opening ceremony of the event held on Thursday at the National Stadium in Abuja with 7, 227 athletes from 35 states and the FCT jostling for honours.
