Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday sealed no fewer than six landed property allegedly owned by a former governor of Ekiti State Ayo Fayose. The sealing may be connected to a court order which authorised the seizure of the property suspected to have been built with corrupt proceeds.
President Muhammadu Buhari and former vice president Atiku Abubakar have been scheduled for presidential debate on 19 December at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, chairman of the Nigerian Election Debate Group John Momoh said the debate would also involve candidates of other parties participating in the election. He said the vice presidential candidates are billed to have their debate on 14 January, 2019.
Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, got more than he bargained for on Thursday as he was booed and shouted down by a furious audience for attempting to reel out the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. Two members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives on Thursday dumped the ruling party. The Arewa Consultative Forum says former President Goodluck Jonathan should take responsibility for causing his own defeat in the 2015 presidential election. Jonathan had on Tuesday claimed that former Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who defected to the then opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), and northern leaders worked against him in 2015. Reacting in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Muhammad Biu, ACF said the former leader should rather be held responsible for his defeat.
The online copy of a new book written by former President Goodluck Jonathan titled, ”My Transition Period” is fake, says the ex-president’s media aide. But soft copies of it in PDF, which have been shared on social media particularly WhatsApp, show inaccurate information.
The Nigeria Police on Thursday replied Senate President Bukola Saraki that the death of the principal suspect in the Offa bank robbery, Michael Adikwu, cannot vindicate him. Concise News reports that the Senate President on Wednesday said the police investigation into the deadly bank robbery on April 5, was politically motivated to implicate him and Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed. But in a statement by the Force PRO, Jimoh Moshood, the police said the evidence from the five suspects now in court are enough to prosecute Saraki.
The special adviser to the president on political matters, Babafemi Ojudu, says the House of Representatives Committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness did not level allegations of corruption against Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo. Ojudu made this comment while responding to the attacks on Osinbajo, especially by critics of the current administration.
