The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has finally been issued a visa to the United States. It was learned that the former vice-president has left Nigeria for the UK, where he would spend some time before flying to the U. S. According to TheCable on Saturday, there is yet no date fixed for his US trip.
2- Super Falcons Win Record Ninth African Title
Nigeria have won the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (Awcon) title for a record ninth time after beating South Africa 4-3 on penalties on Saturday in Accra, Ghana. It was a ding-dong affair as both sides ended normal and extra-time without a goal before the ensuing shootout. The Super Falcons, who had qualified for the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup by reaching this stage of the competition, retained the trophy for the third time on the bounce.
3- Buhari Congratulates Victorious Super Falcons
President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Super Falcons of Nigeria for winning the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (Awcon) title for a record ninth time. The Falcons won the title after beating South Africa 4-3 on penalties on Saturday in Accra, Ghana. The President, in a statement issued by his media aide Femi Adesina, expressed particular delight at the discipline and commitment exhibited by the country’s senior women’s football team despite the stiff resistance of their South African counterparts.
4- Falana Reveals Why Buhari’s Executive Order May Fail
The implementation of the Executive Order No. 5 may not work, according to human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN). Falana said this at the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria 2018 Congress held this week in Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari had in August signed the Executive Order 5.
5- Buhari Worried Over Imo APC Crisis, Says Ganduje
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has said President Muhammadu Buhari is worried over the crisis in the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ganduje said this on Friday in Owerri when his team met supporters of the APC governorship candidate in the state, Hope Uzodinma, as part of ongoing efforts to reconcile the factions in the state.
6- OPC Founder Fasheun Passes Away
The founder of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) Frederick Fasehun died on Saturday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja. Fasehun was said to have passed away in the early hours of the day after he was admitted to the hospital, at the Intensive Care Unit, on Tuesday. According to Fasehun’s spokesman, Adeoye Jolaosho, the octogenarian died after a brief illness.
7- Jimi Agbaje Cries Out, Says Democracy Under Threat In Lagos
The governorship candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos state, Jimi Agbaje, on Saturday alleged that his campaign advertisement boards had been vandalised. Although Agbaje, who lost to the current governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, in the last elections in 2015, did not explicitly accuse the’ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring the removal, he suggested that the government of Lagos may have ordered it.
8- APC Reacts To Defection Of Okorocha, Amosun’s Anointed Candidates
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it will not lose any sleep over the defection of the anointed candidates of Imo and Ogun State Governors, Rochas Okorocha and Ibikunle Amosun, from the party. The APC National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu made this known to the Sun on Friday.
9- Britain Pledges Non-interference In 2019 Elections
The British Government has restated that it would not interfere in Nigeria’s 2019 elections, calling for free and fair polls. This assurance came from the British Deputy High Commissioner Harriet Thompson in Umuahia, Abia State earlier in the week. It was during Thompson’s visit to the Abia State Police Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike.
10- Premier League Table After Match Day 14
Manchester City have extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a 3-1 spanking of Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium. Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan bagged the goals which took City to 38 points from 14 matches. Elsewhere, Newcastle United lost 3-0 at home to West Ham, Brighton defeated Huddersfield 2-1, Leicester City overcame Watford 2-0, while Crystal Palace recorded a 2-0 win over Burnley.
