Tragedy as a yet-to-be identified 5-year-old boy was reportedly killed and four other occupants of a tricycle popularly known as Keke NAPEP were critically injured in an accident that occurred along Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Ohafia highway, Abia on Wednesday.
According to an eyewitness, the tricycle was hit by a Pathfinder jeep whose 0 00was on a high speed.
The jeep was coming from the direction of Uzuakoli and heading towards Umuahia while the tricycle was heading to Uzuakoli when they had a head-on collision.
The eyewitness further revealed that the driver of the jeep was trying to avoid a pothole when he lost control and thereafter rammed in the oncoming tricycle, killing the child and injuring other occupants in the process.
While blaming the accident on the dilapidated state of the federal highway, the witness said if the road was good and spot free, the fatal accident would not have occurred.
Efforts made to get the reaction of the Sector Command of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), in Abia State; Mr. Meshach Jatau, failed as he was no available for comment.
