In order to mitigate the effects of President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove subsidies for Premium Motor Spirit, more commonly known as gasoline, the Trade Union Congress‘ National Executive Council met for a few hours before adjourning.
Tommy Etim, the national deputy president of the TUC, revealed this in an interview with our correspondent on Monday in Abuja.
When questioned, Etim, who also serves as the national president of the Association of Senior Civil Servants, said that the labor leaders had already met and received recommendations from their NEC before going on to meet with government representatives.
“We just wrapped up our meeting a few hours ago, and we got some recommendations from our members, which we’ll pass along to the government later today,” he said. “.
According to The PUNCH, Femi Gbajabiamila, the chief of staff for President Bola Tinubu, noted on Sunday that the two labor unions, the Nigeria Labour Congress and the TUC, had agreements with the government and might end up suspending their planned nationwide strike.
Gbajabiamila claimed that the Federal Government had agreed to devise measures to resolve the conflict brought on by the elimination of the fuel subsidy.
After the meeting, the NLC president spoke to the media and pledged to arrange a meeting with union members to discuss the FG’s offers to put the planned strike on hold.
