Ufuoma McDermott, a Nollywood actress, has apologized on behalf of Nigerians to Indian chef Lata Tondon, the former Guinness World Record holder for a cook-a-thon.
Recall how, during Hilda Baci’s cook-a-thon event aimed at ousting Chef Lata, Nigerians were cruel to her, with many cyberbullying her.
In a lengthy post on her Instagram page, Ufuoma apologized to her and praised her for paving the way for many young ladies to follow in her footsteps.
Chef Lata lit a torch to light a path, and now many people can see on that path.
Despite being stripped of her crown, Ufuoma stated that her title as the first woman to hold the record will live on.
Crowning her an inspiration, she urged her to keep speaking to young people about their dreams.
“Today I choose to celebrate an inspiration @cheflatatondon. Because she did, our awesome #HildaBaci could Lata, you lit a torch to light a path and now many can see on that path.
First woman to hold a @guinnessworldrecords for the longest cooking by an individual is no mean feat.
Please forgive our overt excitement. We simply pointed out our own to “win”. But even our own has acknowledged that you were the inspiration for the journey.
Your title is NEVER lost. Posterity will remember that you were the first woman and you held it for a long time. In the same vein today. Hilda is inspiring many others. Keep speaking to young people about their dreams. Keep encouraging them. Because indeed, you are a beautiful inspiration”.
Following the confirmation of Hilda Baci as the new holder of the longest cooking marathon’s Guinness World Record, renowned Indian chef Lata Tondon broke her silence.
In response to the announcement, Lata made extensive modifications to her Instagram profile, deleting her earlier post applauding Hilda Baci and eliminating any mention of the record.
Lata’s response has caused debate among online users, especially Nigerians, who have questioned her prior messages of congratulations to Hilda Baci.
Many were eager to point out the contradiction in her behavior, questioning why she would remove her encouraging words if she didn’t really mean them.
Curios internet users went to Lata’s page to see the updates as word of her Instagram profile upgrade spread.
The absence of any reference to the record and the deletion of her previous congratulatory post have only intensified the scrutiny surrounding Lata’s stance on Hilda Baci’s achievement.
