The UK government has opened applications for its 2025 seasonal worker visa, encouraging Nigerians and other foreign nationals to apply for short-term positions in the horticulture and poultry industries. Successful applicants can expect visa approvals within three weeks if all criteria are met.
The UK government has confirmed that the 2025 visa route will offer 43,000 visas for horticulture and 2,000 for poultry jobs. This seasonal worker visa program was extended in May 2024, allowing it to continue for five more years until 2029.
The UK government said:
“The extended visa scheme gives businesses time to plan effectively, invest in automation, and gradually move away from dependency on seasonal migrant labour,”
How the visa will work
According to the UK government website, foreign workers eligible for the Seasonal Worker visa can apply for horticulture roles year-round, while applications for the poultry sector close annually on November 15. Horticulture visa holders may work in the UK for up to six months, performing tasks like picking fruits, vegetables, and flowers. In contrast, poultry workers are permitted to work between October 2 and December 31 to meet peak seasonal demand.
Applicants must secure sponsorship from a UK employer and fulfill additional eligibility criteria. The application fee for the visa is £298.
