Nigerian musician Joseph Akinfenwa, better known by his stage name Joeboy, has donated N100,000 toward a University of Lagos (UNILAG) student’s tuition in order to help him out.
The appreciative recipient, Anjola Olanipekun, took to social media to convey how much he valued the financial assistance from the artist.
When the University of Lagos raised tuition to a range of N120,000 to N170,000, it recently sparked considerable agitation among its students.
Many undergraduates found it difficult to cover the costs of their education as a result of the management’s meager 10% fee reduction, in spite of student demonstrations calling for a reversal of the decision.
Joeboy, a UNILAG alum, made the decision to act to lessen the financial pressures of the current generation of students after developing empathy for them.
He recalled that the college charged a meager N20,000 in tuition during his time there, and he expressed great concern about the difficulties that students now face when those prices reach N100,000.
The “Alcohol” crooner asked students to submit documentation of their payment slips in order to be eligible for his support fund, promising to assist as many students as possible.
Joeboy tweeted; “Unilag school fees during my time was 20k, and a lot of people were still struggling to pay.
I can’t imagine how hard it is for students now that it’s over 100k. Please send me a DM with your payment slip if you need assistance. I’ll help as many people as I can.”
One of the fortunate recipients of Joeboy’s generous offer, Anjola Olanipekun, expressed his gratitude by sharing a screenshot of the N100,000 transaction on social media.
