A lady has recounted her experience after a master’s student from the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) filed a lawsuit against her for ₦2.5 million, claiming emotional damages and fraud because she declined to go out with him.
She shared her story on X (formerly Twitter), detailing how their relationship started and led to the legal action.
She said she met the man when she was in her fourth year at Kwara State University. He showed that he liked her, but she told him she wasn’t interested.
Even after she turned him down, he kept sending her money and giving her gifts.
Finally, when she told him again that she didn’t have feelings for him, he sued her, claiming she was a fraud.
She received calls from his lawyer and the police, who said she needed to visit the station.
They also threatened to send a letter to her school.
Luckily, she managed to clear her name because their chat history showed she had often rejected his money and gifts.
Recounting the events, she wrote:
“The guy is a master’s student at UNILORIN. When we met, I told him he wasn’t my type, but he refused to leave me alone.”
“He kept sending me money and giving me everything I wanted. When I finally told him I had nothing to offer him, we stopped talking for two weeks. Suddenly, I got a call from the police, saying I had been charged with fraud.”
“His lawyer also called, insisting I was a fraud. I immediately contacted my brother, who works with the DSS, and our family lawyer. This man was prepared—he had printed all the receipts of the money he sent me.”
“The only thing that saved me was that our chats showed I had always rejected his money and told him I wasn’t interested.”
She shared that the case was finally brought to the government house for resolution. In the mediation, the man demanded that she either marry him or go to court with him.
He also stated that he had applied for a Canadian visa for couples and had added her name to it.
Looking back on how it began, she mentioned that he first obtained her account number through a refund.
“I forgot to mention that he got my account number when we first met. I went out to buy food but couldn’t pay due to bank issues, so he helped me. Later, when we went out again, the bank network failed on his end, so I paid. He asked for my account number to refund me, and that’s how he got it.”
“From the start, I told him I couldn’t date him. He then suggested we be friends, and I agreed.”
