Famous hip-hop figure Sean “Diddy” Combs is now on suicide watch at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center as he waits for his trial on serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges.
The 54-year-old was arrested on several counts, including transporting individuals for prostitution, after federal agents searched his homes in Los Angeles and Miami six months ago.
Sources told People that Combs is in a fragile mental state and has been placed on suicide watch as a safety measure due to his distress after the arrest.
The U.S. Department of Justice National Institute of Corrections defines suicide watch as “supervisory precautions taken for suicidal inmates that require frequent observation.”
Combs was denied bail and house arrest by Judge Robyn Tarnofsky in Manhattan.
His lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, stated that Combs intends to plead not guilty and will fight hard for his release.
Agnifilo also mentioned that Combs is staying positive and confident despite the circumstances.
The charges against Combs are serious, including physical and sexual abuse, and involve claims of striking and dragging women, using his staff to hide his actions, and being part of a criminal group related to sex trafficking, forced labor, drug crimes, and bribery.
In the last year, multiple people have come forward with lawsuits alleging abuse, but Combs has denied these claims.
