A transwoman in the United States has expressed her distress upon receiving an email indicating that her gender designation has been altered from female to male.
The individual, who was assigned male at birth but transitioned to female, posted a video in which she voiced her frustration regarding the reversal of her gender on her passport.
This alteration took place following a policy enacted by the current administration under President Donald Trump, which rescinded protections for cross-dressing and transgender individuals, asserting that a man will be classified as male and a woman as female.
In the video shared by the transwoman, identified as Perysian Zaya Mekhi, she displayed her passport bio page, which now lists her gender as “M,” despite her photo depicting her in feminine attire.
She said: “In case you’re wondering what it’s like being transgender under this new administration, I just got my new passport in the mail and they changed the gender to male because of Donald Trump.”
Zaya further noted that all her other identification documents recognize her as female and that she has undergone complete surgical procedures to transition to female.
They wrote to her: “The sex was corrected on your passport application. The changes were made for one of the following reasons: to match our record.”
Zaya clarified that the only document that ever recorded her as male was a passport from her childhood.
“So, basically it doesn’t matter that all of my other documents say female and that I’ve had my s£x change surgery, if you’ve had a passport in the past that displays the opposite s£x, then they will not honor your gender change,” she explained.
“I will be seeking legal action,” she added.
She continued: “Because, look, I’m an adult and I’ve undergone my full medical transition. There is nothing about me anymore that represents male on the exterior whatsoever.”
