Prominent Nigerian activist, Verydarkman, has expressed concern after receiving an unexpected donation of N100 million into his NGO account from an anonymous donor, bringing the total contributions to N170 million. The large, unsolicited deposit has sparked suspicions that someone may be attempting to entrap him in financial misconduct, such as money laundering.
Verydarkman, widely known for his advocacy work through his NGO, admitted feeling uneasy about the substantial donation from a single source. In a video posted on his Instagram, he voiced his anxiety and sought advice from the public. Speaking to his followers, he said, “Nigerians, please help me. Someone has sent N100 million to my NGO account. I hope no one is trying to set me up. There’s now N170 million in my NGO account.”
In the caption of the video, he called on his bank, Zenith Bank, to investigate the origin of the funds to ensure he isn’t being falsely implicated in fraud. He wrote, “@zenithbankplc please look into my NGO account. I have no idea what’s happening, and I hope this isn’t an attempt to set me up. I AM NOT INVOLVED IN MONEY L^UNDERING OR FR^UD (FOR THE RECORD). Nigerians, bear witness that I’m not aware of the situation with the account.”
Supporters have offered their encouragement and advised him to seek help from legal and financial experts to thoroughly investigate the legitimacy of the funds and safeguard himself from any potential criminal implications.
