On Friday night, the Grammy-winning Nigerian musician unveiled his new album, titled ‘Morayo’, through a series of Instagram posts.
The ‘Ojuelegba’ hitmaker, however, has warned the public that the project is not for Afrobeats lovers, especially followers of his 2011 hit song ‘Pakurumo’.
The musician also blasted the music genre and asked his fans not to refer to him as a “Afrobeats artiste”.
He wrote:

“The album ‘Morayo’ is the best I have ever recorded. I am not an Afrobeat artist. “Do not call me that,”
“If you enjoy Afrobeats, please do not download my album; I’m not Afro anything.
“And please if you like ‘Pakuromo’ Wizkid, don’t like this album. In fact, delete me from your playlist and life.”
Wizkid’s post elicited reactions from other Nigerian celebrities, like Tunde Ednut, who expressed amazement at his stance. Tunde emphasised the importance of Afrobeats and its longstanding relationship to Nigerian culture.
Tunde wished Wizkid success with his next album and promised to support it by downloading it if it lived up to his expectations.
Tunde Ednut wrote;
“WIZKID IS AT IT AGAIN TONIGHT,Oo! It is well..,We, we love Afrobeats and Afrobeats is ours forever. We are proud of it and Afrobeats is here to stay.,All the best in his forthcoming Album. If it’s good, we’ll still download it”
