Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actress Dupe Jayesimi has opened up about her struggles with childlessness and the collapse of her marriage, blaming her mother for preventing her from adopting a child.
Painful Journey to Motherhood
Speaking in an interview on Abiola Adebayo’s YouTube podcast, Talk-to-B, Jayesimi shared how her desperation to have a child was met with opposition from her family.
She revealed that her mother threatened to harm any child she adopted, making her realize she was in for a long and painful journey.
She attempted IVF twice, but both failed.
She later conceived naturally at 40, but it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy, which resulted in surgery and dashed her hopes once again.
Marriage Woes & Betrayal
Jayesimi narrated how her marriage fell apart due to childlessness:
She married in 1988 and suffered a miscarriage shortly after.
Her husband distanced himself, even using pillows to separate them in bed.
He abandoned her for months, forcing her to eventually leave.
Just two weeks after she moved out, her ex-husband brought in a pregnant woman to their home.
Coping with Heartbreak & Regret
Devastated, the actress admitted she turned to alcohol and sorrow for years before deciding to move on.
She later met an Alhaji who supported her fertility struggles, but his first wife opposed their relationship, forcing her to leave.
She regrets not adopting a child earlier due to her mother’s disapproval.
A New Hope for the Future
Jayesimi says she has stopped overthinking and now believes in God’s timing.
Despite mockery from those she raised, she remains hopeful about adoption.
