The alleged Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) recently came under fire after threatening to rusticate a female student for wearing what he considered to be indecent clothing.
A video of the confrontation between the vice chancellor and the student went viral on social media after it was posted, setting off a fiery debate on campus and beyond.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows the Vice-Chancellor reprimanding a female student in the classroom.
The Vice-Chancellor, accompanied by university representatives, questioned the student’s choice of clothing and expressed interest in how comfortable she felt wearing what he considered to be an indecent outfit.
The Vice-Chancellor refused to change his mind despite the student’s request for him to do so, saying that the university should not tolerate students who dress immorally.
The student defended herself by saying that she was not baring too much skin and that she was at ease in the clothes she had chosen.
However, the Vice-Chancellor’s response was aggressive rather than opening up a productive discussion.
He gave the officials the student’s matriculation number and other personal information, indicating that he intended to have her dismissed from UNIPORT.
