Vwaere Diaso: Reno Omokri laud Lagos Govt over Suspension of LASIAMA Boss

Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, has praised Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the actions taken against some people found guilty in the circumstances surrounding the death of Dr. Vwaere Diaso, who passed away last week in a tragic elevator accident at Lagos Island General Hospital, Odan.

The Lagos State Infrastructure and Asset Management Agency’s general manager has been suspended, according to a previous Gistlover report.

The hospital’s facility managers were fired and placed on a state government blacklist, and the installation and maintenance contractors were turned over to the police for further investigation and possible legal action.

The state government states that the actions taken are a result of the panel’s recommendations, which were established to investigate the likely causes of the accident, identify potential suspects, and offer suggestions for preventing similar incidents in the future.

Omokri responded on Monday by writing on Twitter that the governor of Nigeria, Sanwo-olu, has so far taken impressive and commendable actions.

He also praised the governor for establishing a rule involving hospital management in facility management and ensuring that all Lagos State Government employees have life insurance.

Omokri argued that the state government’s actions demonstrate that it has drawn valuable lessons from the senseless tragedy. He wrote: “The actions taken by Governor Sanwo-olu so far over the unfortunate elevator-linked death of Dr Vwaere Diaso, from the suspension of the GM of the Lagos State Infrastructure and Asset Management Agency, the delisting and sacking of the facility management company and the arrest and handing over of the elevator installers to the police for prosecution has been very commendable.

“And introducing a policy to involve the hospital management in the running of the facility shows that the government has learnt needed lessons from this needless tragedy. I am hard-pressed to see how the Lagos State Government could have handled the situation better.

“Additionally, it is particularly heartwarming that all staff of the Lagos State Government have life insurance provided by the state. And while this will not bring Dr Diasa back, it offers at least some succour to her family.

“Indeed, Lagos has shown itself to be a Centre of Excellence in Nigeria, and I commend the government of the state for restoring the confidence of the public in its ability to govern them effectively.”
