The Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders (COSYEL) has warned that WAEC candidates are likely to miss exams because of IPOB sit-at-home order.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ordered the people in the region to sit at home every Monday to protest the detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
The sit-at-home order was later suspended but only in words. People in the South East report that they cannot step out of their homes on Monday as those who dared, allegedly met dire consequences.
There have been reports of vehicles and properties allegedly getting destroyed because the owners did not obey the order, even after its suspension.
The Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders, (COSEYL) said the actions by IPOB are detrimental to the well-being of innocent civilians.
A statement by the President, Goodluck Ibem, and Secretary, Kanice Igwe, lamented the negative impacts of the weekly sit-at-home order on residents.
It said WAEC candidates were at a high risk of missing exams taken on Monday because of the sit at home order by IPOB
The statement reads in part: “Our secondary school students sitting for WAEC examinations will be writing English Language on September 13 and we cannot afford to have them miss the paper.
“Asking these students to sit-at-home on Monday when others will be writing the same examination is the worst disservice anyone can do to our students.”
