The Management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), said the fire that engulfed its head office today, October 26, did not affect the documents and records store.
A statement from the examination body stated that the fire that engulfed its facility in Lagos has been put out by a combined team of firefighters, adding that no life was lost in the inferno and all important records remain intact.
A statement by Head, Public Affairs Department, Moyosola Adesina, reads: “WAEC wishes to inform the general public that there was an early morning fire incident at the WAEC National Office, Yaba, Lagos.Â
“It was swiftly contained by a combined team of fire fighters.
“Thankfully, no life was lost and all important documents and records are intact.”
A fire outbreak has been reported at the West African Examination Council (WAEC) National Office in Yaba, Lagos.
The cause of the fire, which broke out in the middle of the high-rise building, leaving many trapped, is yet to be ascertained.
Eyewitnesses report seeing those trapped in the building frantically calling for help through the windows. Some staff were reportedly seen attempting to jump through the window of the building to escape the fire.
Firefighters from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) have arrived at the scene of the incident to extinguish the fire.
