Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has said that he is in talks with the Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi for a possible merger.
Kwankwaso made this known during an interview with BBC Hausa, noting that it is aimed at creating a formidable force to displace the ruling All Progressives (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former Kano State governor said that their merger was especially important as neither APC nor PDP had fielded an Igbo running mate for their presidential candidates.
“It is true we are in talks with Peter Obi and a committee is working to look into how to form a merger between us. Friends and family are being up and doing talking about the merger arrangement. The merger is important because as you can see both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not pick their running mates from the South-east” Kwankwaso told BBC Hausa.
On Friday, Doyin Okupe, the former aide to ex-Presidents’ Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, announced that he was the running mate to Peter Obi.
