As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prepares for the upcoming election, governorship the British High Commission has expressed interest to monitor it and ensure a peaceful and fair election.
Dr. Richard Montgomery, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, claims that his nation is very interested in the governorship elections in the states of Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa on November 11.
Montgomery said, “Of topical concern are the off-season elections in the three states. We are watching closely to see how the process will be carried on,”
During a visit to Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria revealed this information.
Montgomery claimed that the purpose of his visit to the APC headquarters was to celebrate Ganduje on his appointment as the party’s Chairman
In addition, he said that the APC was a national party that was “helping to shape the politics of Nigeria” and that the legal challenges surrounding Nigerian elections, such as the reclaiming of mandates in court, were a necessary component of the democratic process.
In his speech, Ganduje asserted that the APC is a powerful democratic organization that offers all Nigerians hope and that democracy is about good administration.
The APC national chairman said, “If a political party is not well-structured, democracy will be affected. We are looking forward to stronger ties.”
