We’ll end abduction, assassinations in South-Eastern States – Army Chief, Lt Lagbaja

Lt-General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, has told the people of the South-East that instability will soon be a thing of the past.

According to Lagbaja, the Nigerian Army will operate around the clock alongside other security agencies to put an end to kidnappings, banditry, and assassination in the South-East.

He made the guarantee during a hearing with the Ad-Hoc committee of the House of Representatives probing the killing and kidnapping in Umunneochi, Abia State.

Brigadier General Gabriel Olufemi Esho, Deputy Director, Operations, Army Headquarters, represented the Army Chief.

Kidnapping, according to Lagbaja, is a significant security concern in the two local government regions.

The Army leader committed to deal with individuals responsible for insecurity in the South-East..

He said, ”The House of representative through its letter dated 3rd August 2023 requested that the Nigerian Army submit a memorandum to the ad-hoc committee to interface with relevant security agencies and stockholders in respect of incessant attacks of kidnappers, assassination and banditry and other criminal elements in and around these two local government areas.

“It is pertinent to state that recently, efforts of the Nigerian Army, through its Division in conjunction with other security agencies, have diminished the threat of kidnapping.”
