Fr Kelvin Ugwu, a Nigerian Catholic Priest, has expressed his dismay at the viral footage of women donning bridal gowns to a prayer testing session for husbands.
A few days ago that some Nigerian ladies sparked outrage online after donning bridal gowns to a faith-testing prayer service.
Chacha Eke, a Nollywood actress, attended the prayer service with her husband, Austin Faani, who was the guest lecturer.
All of the ladies were dressed in bridal gowns and prayed fervently for their marriages in the video shared to the movie star’s Instagram page.
The video elicited mixed comments, with many wondering if the ladies’ characters were also examined.
The cleric slammed the move on his Facebook page, asking why men weren’t required to wear wedding attire and pray for spouses.
He slammed churches that engage in such behavior, calling it unchristian and filthy.
He mentioned how persons who want to be Ph.D. holders but haven’t started school yet might exercise their faith by donning graduation gowns and hats and attending prayer sessions.
The cleric went on to say that it is becoming a tendency to do so, and that the more we keep quiet, the more it would be considered as usual.
“Since those looking for husbands must wear wedding gowns to claim it in faith.
Those who have not entered school but hoping to have their PhDs should borrow graduation gowns and caps, during the 8 a.m. service this coming Sunday to claim it in faith.
Those aspiring to be nurses or doctors should come to church next Sunday with everything doctors use. Come and claim it in faith.
Women aspiring to go to Omugwo (a traditional Igbo custom for postpartum care by the mother of the couple) should come with wrappers and baby bathing buckets with baby powder.
And the biggest one, those seeking to be the next Tinubu, should wear their cap and eyeglasses during the 10 a.m. service.
Mtchewwwwww.
It is now becoming a trend and the more we keep quiet, it will soon be seen as normal.
To all those churches asking women to wear wedding gowns to church so they can pray to have husbands, what you are doing is not Christian. In fact, it is disgusting.
What sort of desperation is this?
Why are you not asking the men to put on wedding suits and pray for wives?
And by the way, why do you need them to put on wedding gowns, is that what makes the marriage?
And to those who gladly hire wedding gowns and wear them to church because you were told that it would connect you to your husbands, let me ask you this…
When you pray for husbands, what exactly are you telling God to do?
That he should suspend the reasoning and choosing capacity of the type of man you want (and it usually rich men you want) so that even when your attitudes, character, and personality are not what he wants, he will close his eyes to all of them and marry you?”.
