Why Adebayo Shittu Was Screened Out Of APC Governorship Primaries
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declined to clear the Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, for its governorship primaries.
Adebayo Shittu, has been screened out of the Oyo state APC governorship primaries for not possessing the NYSC certificate.
Recall that last week, it was widely reported the Minister’s failure to participate in the mandatory one-year scheme when he graduated from the Obafemi Awolowo University in 1978. After graduating from the Nigerian Law School in 1979 at 25, Adebayo instead of registering for the mandatory one year scheme, ran for a seat in the Oyo state House of Assembly and won.
The National Working Committee of the APC, took the decision to screen him out based on the report of the party’s Governorship Aspirants Screening Committee.
The party has also screened out the Minister of Women Affairs, Senator Aisha Alhassan, from the Taraba state governorship race. No reason was given.
Alhassan had been the party’s governorship candidate in Taraba State during the 2015 general elections.
The Women Affairs Minister had, however, generated controversy in 2017 when a video of her visit to a former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who was then in the APC went viral.
She later told the BBC Hausa Services that even if President Muhammadu Buhari seeks a second term, she would still support Abubakar.
