Yul Edochie, the famous Nigerian actor and director, caused a sensation online after being chastised for not calling his wife, Judy Austin, by her marital surname.

Since their contentious marriage became public, the pair has received unrelenting vitriol, with trolls using every chance to bash them. Nonetheless, the couple appears unaffected, often releasing loved-up videos and photographs that only seem to heighten the scrutiny they undergo.

Judy has joyfully accepted her new identity after marrying Yul, adding the Edochie surname to her profile as a sign of her happiness and dedication.

However, in a recent post, Yul stirred the pot once again. In a video of their lively banter, he affectionately referred to Judy as “Judy Austin” in the commentary.

The video showed the pair enjoying one other’s company, complete with laughing and reciprocal comments.

However, the tone of his comment suddenly changed as he stated that he had just left her off at the airport for a trip, bemoaning the emptiness he felt without her.

Yul Edochie wrote;

“This morning I was at the airport to drop off ljele Odogwu Judy Austin so she could catch a flight. Now she’s gone.Loneliness wants to finish me.”

This heartfelt gesture quickly turned into a battleground in the comments section, where critics rushed in not to celebrate the couple’s love but to chastise Yul for sticking with Judy’s maiden name, “Austin.”

Many fans were quick to call him out, questioning why he wouldn’t acknowledge her as an Edochie, given the significance of their union.

Yet amidst the backlash, a few loyal supporters rose to Yul’s defense, arguing that there’s nothing wrong with retaining a maiden name.
