Nollywood actress and director Omoni Oboli has stated that she does not interfere in her son’s marriage.
She respects her daughter-in-law’s independence and keeps her distance, even if she has some concerns.
Omoni made these comments on the Dear Ife podcast with Ifedayo Agoro. She said:
“There’s been a few times when my son has come to meet me to say, ‘Mum, Marelle does not like that’ and I have to catch myself back and say ‘Oh, I didn’t mean it that way.’ And it’s okay.
So, the fact that your child cannot come to you to say ‘my wife doesn’t like this’, that’s a problem in itself.”
“I think, first things first, people need to understand and realise that this is now another family. Yes, they are still a part of your family but they now have their own family.”
Omoni and Nnamdi Oboli’s eldest son, Tobe, married his Caucasian fiancée in March, and they had a baby girl in August.
On October 29, Omoni celebrated her 24th wedding anniversary on social media, crediting her husband Nnamdi for much of her success.
She shared a touching message on Instagram, featuring both old and new photos of them together.
Omoni showed her appreciation to Nnamdi for their two-decade journey together.
She recognized his love, encouragement, and strength as the main reasons for her achievements.
