Soronous songstress Omawumi has opened up on why she cut her hair in the music video for one of her singles, ‘Bullshit’.
The singer disclosed she was hopeless during the pandemic and #ENDSARS protests because she was losing people.
Omawumi told HipTV that she felt nothing was going right with Nigeria and she was in a place of despair.
The respected musician noted she felt tired she had to chop off her hair. She, however, revealed the period was a redefining moment for her.
She said, “I cut my hair on my video that I did; the song is titled BS. I cut my hair live on that video because when I was writing it, I was in a place of despair. It was during the pandemic and I was losing people left right center.”
“There was the ‘Soro Soke’ in the background. People were dying. It just felt like nothing was going right with the country. We were celebrating mediocrity.”
The ‘Soro soke’ means ‘speak up’ in Yoruba language. It was one of the popular slangs used during the End SARS protests.
‘Bullshit’ by Omawumi was released in April 2021, ahead of her latest album, ‘Love, Deep, High Life’.
