“Why I left football to pursue music” – Fuji star, Pasuma shares

  • Nigerian football star Pasuma discusses the pivotal moment that led him to transition from football to music.
    • The 56-year-old artist shared that a setback in his football career led him to pursue music instead.
    • Pasuma expressed his initial goal of becoming a professional footballer, with high hopes of representing Nigeria on the international stage.

    Wasiu Alabi, better known by his stage name Pasuma, is a Nigerian Fuji star who has opened up about the turning point in his career that caused him to switch from football to music.

    The legendary artist, who recently turned 56, talked about how a setback in his football career led him to pursue a career in music.

    In an interview, Pasuma stated that his first goal was to play professional football and that he hoped to represent Nigeria internationally.

    Getting a position on the national team for the FIFA U-16 World Championship in China in 1985 was his main goal.

    But the Fuji star was disappointed not to make the cut for the esteemed tournament.

    Pasuma recalled the moment of rejection and added;

    “I was a footballer, so I was invited for Kodak, but I decided to go into music because I wasn’t picked to go to Kodak for the World Cup then, so I now said I want to be a musician straight. I was a footballer before.”

    Pasuma did not allow the disappointment of his football career’s setback to lower his spirits.

    Rather, he directed his attention and enthusiasm onto music, eventually securing a position for himself in the field.
