Afrobeats singer Davido explained why his billionaire father, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, stepped in during his first recording contract.

He had signed with Black Diamond in 2011, but after his dad listened to a clip of his hit song ‘Dami Duro,’ he chose to buy him out of that deal.

He said that his dad got him out of the deal so he could own the music masters.

He revealed this after his old record label boss, Tosin Ashafa, talked about giving Davido his first professional deal and how Davido’s wealthy dad responded.

While participating in a trend on X, people are encouraged to tweet their “most random music fact, Ashafa wrote, “I signed @davido to his 1st Offical contract under black diamond promotions with Cecil Hammond/another silent partner, we hired @GodwinTom to manage him .Dr Adeleke realized David was really serious with pushing his music without him, reached out to us and bought us out.”

Reposting the tweet, Davido wrote, “So much respect to you guys for allowing me walk!! Just know u were part of something that turned out to be phenomenal!!”

An X user named @Choiji_ES stated that the event took place in 2019, but Davido responded to this claim, “No I signed the contract in 2011 … was a good contract not bad ! But daddy wanted me to have 100 percent of whatever I was doing ! Especially after I played him first cut of Dami duro video in his office ! He knew it was game time!!!”

Davido and his family started HKN Music after his father helped him exit his contract with Black Diamond.

Later, he left HKN Gang to create his own label called Davido Music Worldwide, or DMW.
