President Muhammdu Buhari has revealed why Nigerians never protested against him, when he doubled fuel pump price.

Buhari made this disclosure on Friday evening, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, via his twitter handle.
He said that Nigerians have trusted Buhari, that made them keep silent even when Buhari almost doubled the price of fuel from about N87 to N145; unlike when citizens shut the country down in 2012, because Jonathan wanted to increase the price of fuel from N67 to N97.
Adesina said on his twitter handle: “When petrol went to N145 under PMB, Nigerians held their peace, unlike when they shut the country in 2012. The difference is trust. Simple.”
Adesina was apparently reacting to the statement credited to Jonathan, when a Chairmanship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tunde Adeniran, visited the erstwhile President at his residence in Abuja.

Expressing surprise that Nigerians criticised him when he wanted to increase fuel price in 2012, Jonathan had said.
“My government was severely criticised for increasing the pump price of petroleum from N67 to N97, at a time that global crude price was going for over $100.
“The pump price was later reduced to N87, when the price of crude oil dropped, and they attacked us that it was supposed to be lower.
“Those who criticised my administration are not talking again now that the global crude oil is about $53 per barrel, and the pump price of petrol is N143”, a statement by Jonathan’s Spokesperson, Ikechukwu Eze, quoted him to have said.
