In a recent interview on TVC’s Your View, the actor responded to Kanayo O. Kanayo’s statement on men’s financial responsibility.
Bovi Ugboma, the renowned stand-up comedian, has shared his insights regarding the roles of husbands and wives within the family structure.
His comments were prompted by Kanayo O. Kanayo’s assertion about the financial obligations of men during a recent interview on TVC’s Your View.
While Bovi acknowledged the cultural expectation for men to be the primary providers, he emphasized the necessity of empowering women to chase their aspirations and achieve financial autonomy.
He argued that when a woman’s passion leads her to contribute financially, her efforts should be acknowledged and valued.
Furthermore, Bovi pointed out the practical advantages of women’s financial independence, illustrating situations in which a woman could sustain herself and her family in the event of her husband’s death or departure.
“You have to understand that even those of us who are providing, our egos are easily bruised, not to talk of you sitting at home and expecting her to provide,” he said.
“And it is the spiral effect that is the issue. If you want to sit at home. If you want to do 50/50 with your wife, do it in peace. But understand that there are effects for your wives providing for you.“
Generally speaking, man is the provider. However, if the passion of a woman has pushed her to a level she can provide, you must recognize that power in the woman.
“I like a man who provides. That is what is cultural. If your woman is ambitious, then you have to find the middle ground. I provide everything in my home.
“Personally, a man should provide for his family. I also believe in today’s world, a woman should be encouraged to chase her dream.
“And if those dreams make her economically powerful then it is welcome. If a man dies what happens to the woman when she is not economically powerful? And if a man chooses to misbehave and say leave my house, what happens to the woman?”
