During its 50th-anniversary celebration and convocation ceremony, the University of Calabar honored Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with an Honorary Doctorate in Law.
The award was given by the university’s Chancellor, Emir Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, at the conference center.
The event featured several distinguished guests, including the Deputy Governor of Cross River State and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who, along with his wife, also received an honorary doctorate.
Other lawmakers, such as Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong and Senate Leader Bamidele Opeyemi, were in attendance.
Wike’s honorary degree is particularly significant given the current political tensions in Rivers State, where he has been implicated in the crisis following President Bola Tinubu’s emergency declaration.
