Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has declared that Wike will not dictate the choices of Edo voters, who know who to support in the upcoming governorship election on September 21.

He stressed that his disagreement with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike will not affect the Peoples Democratic Party’s chances in the election this Saturday.

Obaseki made these comments during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

It’s worth noting that Wike played a key role in helping Obaseki win against the APC candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, in 2020.

However, Wike has now stated he will not back his candidate, Asue Ighodalo, due to their political fallout since the last election.

Obaseki said, “He (Wike) came to get Edo people to vote for me, right? Wow! Edo people are not that dumb, they know who to vote for.

“They don’t require the services of an outsider to make their decisions. Edo people will make their decisions this time because they know what they want.”

The governor mentioned that he feels no regret about parting ways with some of his political colleagues, such as Oshiomhole and Philip Shaibu. He added that some politicians are displeased with him for using government revenue to help the community.
