Sylvia Amaka Ogbaegbe stated, “Pregnancy can cure you of an ailment.
“When I had one of the necessary tests required to travel, they found out I had an enlarged heart.
“Of course, before then, I could bet I was 100% healthy even when I easily got exhausted from doing small tasks.
“Fast forward to when I got pregnant for my daughter and had to do series of test later on to know the state of the heart and how to manage it…
“Somehow, little foetus of mine has repaired it for me.”
This is not the first time a pregnant lady has reported being cured of an while ailment pregnant.
Scientists believe that fetal cells move into the mother throughout pregnancy and that a fetus can transfer its own stem cells to its mother to heal damaged tissues.
These fetal cells may also protect mums against disease long after the child is born.
According to Dr. J. Lee Nelson of the University of Washington, studies indicate that fetal cells can be advantageous to mothers in some instances.
“I think you’ve got to think of these cells as friends,” she says.
Scientists have also discovered fetal cells in scar tissues, notably scars after C-sections. These cells synthesise collagen. As a result, the fetus could be assisting the mother in her postpartum recovery by repairing wounds.
