A suspected yahoo boy has been apprehended in the Ogobiri community in the Sagbama Local Government area of Bayelsa state following a secret plan to behead a female student of the Niger Delta University (NDU) for ritual purposes.
The police in Bayelsa State have detained a suspected yahoo boy in the Ogobiri community in the Sagbama local government area of Bayelsa State over an alleged plot to butcher a female student of the Niger Delta University (NDU) for ritual purposes.
The event, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, September 21, attracted vigilantes from Ogobiri and Ammassoma along the Setraco Road, along Ogobiri-Toruebeni road in the state’s Sagbama local government area.
There is information to suggest that the victim, an indigene of Ammasoma in the Southern Ijaw local government area, was enticed to an unfinished building with promises of earning some money in Amassoma by a man dressed in black.
According to a member of the vigilante group who asked to remain anonymous, the female student was bound by her ankles and wrists when she was freed. Before they were nabbed, she was about to be butchered.
Spokesman for Bayelsa Police Command confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect was arrested by a combined operation of Operatives of Operation Doo Akpor and vigilantes from the Ogobiri community in Sagbama local government area. Butswat confirmed that the arrest was made by the latter group.
“The suspected ritualist one Sunday Favour Ojo ‘m’ who hails from Edo, State, was arrested on 21st September, 2021, at about 1100hours, at Ogobiri- Toruebeni drive in Sagbama local government area. The suspect lured his victim one Deborah Emafridom ‘f’ a student of Niger Delta University Wilberforce Island, Amassoma, to a nearby bush tied her hands and was about to slit her throat when he was apprehended by the vigilante members and police operatives.
The commissioner of police Bayelsa State Command, CP Echeng E. Echeng, commended the vigilante members for their role in the arrest and appeals to members of the public to continue to volunteer useful information to the police and other security agencies, as discreet investigation into the matter has since commenced.” the spokesperson said
