Terry Tha Rapman, a veteran Nigerian rapper, makes a controversial comment regarding Afrobeats artist Wizkid, blaming him of eliminating the rap genre and now aiming to do the same for Afrobeats.
Wizkid recently attacked Afrobeats on social media, stating he couldn’t fit into a particular genre.
However, Terry Tha Rapman replied on the X platform, claiming that Wizkid killed rap with his assertion that “rap is dead” and is now attempting to kill Afrobeats with his current outburst.
Recall that few days ago, Wizkid denounced Afrobeats in a social media post, claiming he couldn’t fit into a single genre.
However Terry Tha Rapman reacted via the X platform, stating that Wizkid murdered rap with his declaration that “rap is dead” and is now aiming to kill Afrobeats with his new outburst.
He warned Highlife artists to be wary of Wizkid, claiming that it could be his next target.
Terry Tha Rapman wrote:
“First rap, now Afrobeats. How many genres Wizkid wan kill? Highlife, run o!”
Following Wizkid’s outburst, Tunde Ednut, Verydarkman, others weigh in on his stance against being called an Afrobeats artist.
In a series of posts on his Instastories on Friday night, the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer announced his new album titled ‘Morayo’.
The ‘Ojuelegba’ hitmaker, however, warned the public that the project is not for Afrobeats lovers— including fans of ‘Pakurumo’, his 2011 hit song.
Wizkid’s post indeed stirred reactions from other Nigerian celebrities, including Tunde Ednut, who expressed surprise at Wizkid’s stance. Tunde reiterated the significance of Afrobeats and its enduring connection to Nigerian culture.
Tunde wished Wizkid success with his upcoming album and vowed to support it by downloading it if it meets his expectations.
Ednut wrote;
“WIZKID IS AT IT AGAIN TONIGHT,Oo! It is well..,We, we love Afrobeats and Afrobeats is ours forever. We are proud of it and Afrobeats is here to stay. All the best in his forthcoming Album. If it’s good, we’ll still download it”
