In response to the Court of Appeal‘s Abuja Division ruling invalidating his election win and directing a rerun in three of the State’s local government areas, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal called the decision a “temporary setback.”
According to Gistlover, a three-person panel of Justices of the Appellate Court ruled on Thursday that the Zamfara State governorship election scheduled for March 18, 2023, was not definitive. In order to ascertain the poll’s eventual winner, the court then mandated a repeat in the three local government districts of Maradun, Birnin-Magaji, and Bukkuyum.
In a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Governor Lawal asserted that he was re-elected with a landslide due to dissatisfaction with the current Zamfara State administration.
According to Governor Lawal, who was cited by Idris, the results of the March 18 gubernatorial election accurately reflected the people’s desire for a change toward positive development and growth. He also expressed optimism that the people’s collective decision will finally win out.
He stated: “The ruling by the Appeal Court today is a temporary setback. However, I remain optimistic that the collective decision of the people will ultimately prevail.
“We will emerge victorious. Our unwavering determination and steadfast commitment leave no room for doubt or fear.
“We faced numerous challenges on the road to victory in the last election. But let me assure our people that we are fully committed to going to great lengths to retain this widely acclaimed mandate.
“I want to call on the people of Zamfara to remain calm. Our legal team is thoroughly reviewing the verdict. We will follow through with the necessary actions to achieve a just outcome.”
