”The approval followed a bill sent to the legislature by the Executive for the elongation of service year of academic Staff of tertiary institutions in the country.

”The Nine tertiary institutions in Borno to benefit include the Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri, Kashim Ibrahim College of Education Maiduguri, Umar Ibn Ibrahim College of Education Science and Technology Bama, College of Education Waka-Biu, Mohammed Goni College of Legal and Islamic Studies Maiduguri, Mohammed Lawan College of Agriculture Maiduguri, Abba Ashigar College of Business and Management Studies Konduga, College of Nursing and Midwifery Maiduguri and the College of Health and Technology Maiduguri,” Haruna said.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has advocated that Nigeria should have a specific retirement age for political office holders just has it has for civil servants.

The NLC President, Ayuba Wabba said if civil servants can be forced to retire at a particular age even when they are still productive, then the same law should apply to political officeholders.

Wabba made the submission on Tuesday at the 5th NLC Gender Conference in Abuja.

In his words, “You don’t bring a policy that suits only you. If workers above 50 years should retire, then it should apply to politicians as well.”
